Enough

8.15.2014

Like every parent, I sometimes worry that what we have to give the kids simply isn't enough.

Not enough time.

Not enough attention.

Not enough skill or knowledge.

But this past weekend we went on a camping trip up to Orcas Island and as I looked at my kids sitting around the camp fire and hiking through the woods, I was overcome with the feeling that while there could always be more, this is enough.

My kids are happy and healthy and full of joy (and ice cream, apparently).  And that is enough for them and enough for me.

  9. I know this feeling and it sometimes gets amplified by reading blogs and FB. It's hard not to feel I could do more, but it try to remember that it's the little things that are important too. Like pancakes on the weekend and extra trips to the library in the summer. And camping. It is amazing how a two night trip seems like an epic adventure to my kids. ("We had s'mores EVERY NIGHT!") Love Orcas. Wish we had made it up there to camp this summer, but it was time to say "enough". :)

  10. AW! We ferried all around the Strait of Juan De Fuca on our recent adventures in the PNW, and the islands looked so lovely! You live in a beautiful part of the world. And I absolutely know the feeling of "not enough" but the thing is, we have pretty happy kids. And you just can't do everything. My kids are so happy to be home in our "boring" house where I let them do their thing almost all day, it reminds me that it's okay to not have activities and adventures ALL THE TIME. Some times is plenty enough!
